Frequently asked questions about year-end rebates and Palier

The year-end rebate, its calculation and negotiation, then how Palier works for purchasers, suppliers and finance teams.

Year-end rebates

What is a year-end rebate?

A year-end rebate is a deferred discount a supplier grants its distributor customer, computed on the turnover achieved together over the year. Its rate usually depends on a tiered scale set in the annual agreement. In France it is called BFA or RFA.

What is the difference between a rebate and a discount?

A discount reduces the price immediately, on the invoice. A rebate is computed afterwards on the volume of business over a period and paid back, usually by credit note; a year-end rebate is one paid at the end of the year, often subject to turnover tiers.

How do you calculate a year-end rebate?

Determine the base (the year’s turnover, total or per family), find the tier reached in the scale, then apply the rate: to all turnover with a whole rate, or slice by slice with a marginal rate.

What is a tiered rebate scale?

A series of contiguous turnover brackets, each with a rate. For example 0% up to €500,000, 1% up to €1M, 2% up to €2M, 3% above.

Whole rate or marginal rate: which should you choose?

A whole rate is simple and a strong incentive near a bound, but it creates a threshold effect: one more euro can earn a whole tier on all turnover. A marginal rate removes that effect and costs the supplier less for the same scale.

What is the distance to the next tier?

The turnover still missing to reach the next tier up. It is a central negotiation lever: a supplier close to a tier has a reason to push sales, and the purchaser should know it.

Palier

What does Palier do?

Palier runs the whole rebate cycle: agreements and scales, turnover declarations per period, validation, rebate calculation, negotiation of the retained rate, PDF recap, analysis and next year’s scale, with an AI assistant that prepares every decision.

Which kinds of scales does Palier support?

A base scale on total turnover, product family scales and a growth bonus on the year-over-year change, in amount or percent. Each kind of scale has its own mode: whole or marginal rate.

How many declaration periods can we set?

1 to 12 periods per year, contiguous from January to December, each with its entry and validation windows. Declarations are cumulative since 1 January.

Does Palier integrate with our ERP?

Palier exchanges data with your tools through Excel: scale import, a declaration template for suppliers, exports of the turnover grid, results and analysis. Credit notes or invoices are still issued in your ERP.

Is Palier available in French?

Yes: the interface, emails, messages and PDF recaps exist in English and French, chosen by each user.

Suppliers

How does a supplier access Palier?

By invitation from its customer. It chooses a password and reaches its space in the browser, nothing to install, where it sees only its own data.

Can a supplier declare from Excel?

Yes. It exports its template from Palier, fills it in and imports it; a preview shows each cell accepted or refused before submission.

Do suppliers pay to use Palier?

No. The subscription is taken out by the account that manages the rebates; invited supplier contacts use Palier without a subscription.

AI assistant

Does the AI assistant decide for us?

No. It prepares recommendations you approve, edit or dismiss. No action runs without a person allowed to take it.

Which decisions does the assistant prepare?

The review of each declaration (validate, ask a question, refuse), the retained-rate proposal, answers to counters and, if you enable them, next year’s scale design, contract extraction, chasing and a daily brief.

Is our data used to train the AI?

No. The assistant’s memory is a read of your past decisions in your account; no model is trained on your data.

Security and data

Is our data separated from other customers’ data?

Yes, by the application and by the database itself, which enforces row-level security policies for every account.

Who did what, and when?

The audit log records every creation, change and transition with its author, its date and the values before and after.

Can validated data be corrected?

Yes, through a reopening reserved to the account owner, with a reason. A reopened finalised result becomes a numbered revision.
